About the opportunity

Hiring Inclusive is recruiting a Director of Software Development for an established software company serving the spa and hospitality sector. The role sits on the leadership team, reports to the President and combines engineering leadership, technical strategy, hands-on development and an AI-focused modernization mandate.

Leadership and technical mandate

• Lead, coach and develop a team of software developers.
• Set technical direction and make architecture decisions that support scale, stability and maintainability.
• Build and execute a practical roadmap for introducing AI into development processes, tools and products.
• Identify where AI can improve productivity, code generation, analytics, DevOps workflows and product capabilities.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle from planning and architecture through testing, deployment and maintenance.
• Stay close enough to the codebase to contribute directly on selected projects when required.
• Improve engineering practices, code quality, delivery discipline and platform reliability.
• Partner with business stakeholders to define scope, priorities, timelines and delivery expectations.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management and career development across the engineering team.

The Director must be able to move between strategic decisions and hands-on technical work, help the team adopt new AI-enabled ways of working and create an environment where developers continue to learn and improve.

Work arrangement

The role is full-time with a remote / flexible arrangement.

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful engineering-management responsibility.
• Recent hands-on coding experience and willingness to contribute directly when needed.
• Experience with .NET, React, Node.js, MS SQL and AWS, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and microservices architecture.
• Strong understanding of AI and data-driven development, including practical product or workflow integration.
• Experience in environments where scalability, performance and uptime matter.
• Track record of leading technical change, raising engineering standards and developing people.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
