Summary
Job Summary
Carpenters construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures made of wood and wood substitutes. They work in new or existing commercial and residential buildings.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes
- Install and finish dry walls
- Fix crown mouldings
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood and wood substitutes
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, erect and trim walls
Qualifications
Requirements
- Completion of secondary school
- Trade certificate a definite advantage
- 6 months to 1 year experience as a carpenter
- Ability to read and count accurately with simple math skills
