Role description
Thunder Bay District Health Unit is seeking an Associate Medical Officer of Health to join its senior leadership team.
About the organization
TBDHU is a publicly funded public health agency serving approximately 153,000 people across the Thunder Bay District, including municipalities, First Nations and unorganized communities.
The role
The Associate Medical Officer of Health works closely with the Medical Officer of Health to provide direction and support across public health programs and services, including:
• Infectious diseases.
• Environmental health.
• Chronic disease and injury prevention.
• Child and family health.
The AMOH supports the design and evaluation of programs and services based on population health needs and emerging issues in the catchment area.
The role also involves communication with management and staff, the Board of Health, the public and the media, along with partnership development across health and non-health sectors.
At the direction of the Medical Officer of Health, the AMOH may participate in First Nations or other population-health initiatives, provincial committees and programming connected with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
Qualifications
Requirements
• Licensed to practise medicine by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and in good standing.
• Further training in public health.
• Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, or a Master of Public Health degree or equivalent from a recognized university, in accordance with the applicable Ontario requirements.
• Ability to lead and engage people in an interdisciplinary team environment.
• Strategic approach to public health issues.
• Cultural competency and experience applying a culturally safe approach when working with Indigenous people, organizations and populations.
