Director, Aviation Software

## Position
MorEng is supporting a confidential aerospace and aviation software organization with the hiring of a Director of Aviation Software in Quebec City. The employer serves government and commercial customers, and its name is disclosed at a later stage of the recruitment process. The director owns the business and technical performance of a software operation, including product strategy, development, program execution, customer service, commercial growth and financial results. The role involves leading managers and multidisciplinary staff while coordinating with senior company leaders and customers.

## Responsibilities
- Set and execute a product and software-business strategy that supports customer requirements and market opportunities.
- Own profit-and-loss performance, budget preparation, forecasts and operational financial results.
- Define software product roadmaps, investment priorities and sustainable engineering practices.
- Lead software development, systems engineering, program and project management and customer support activities.
- Direct managers and multidisciplinary teams, providing clear objectives, coaching and accountability.
- Oversee product lifecycle plans, release quality, risk management and program delivery.
- Ensure customer contracts and technical programs are executed to agreed requirements and schedules.
- Work closely with business-development teams on commercial opportunities and customer relationships.
- Review operating metrics and financial performance in recurring management sessions.
- Address issues affecting product quality, customer commitments, resourcing and technical operations.
- Develop organizational capabilities and lead operational change where needed.
- Communicate business performance and strategic priorities to corporate management.

## Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, business, project management or a closely related field.
- Bilingual ability in French and English.
- Experience leading managers and multidisciplinary software or technology teams.
- Proven responsibility for budgets, financial performance, strategic plans and business results.
- Strong understanding of software and product lifecycles, program execution, assurance and risk.
- Capacity to represent the organization with customers and senior executives and to manage challenging decisions.
- Strong change leadership, crisis management and commercial judgment.
- A master's degree and 15–20 years of leadership experience are preferred; candidates with approximately 8–10 years of suitable leadership experience may also be considered.
- Aerospace or software-as-a-service industry experience is an asset.
