Intermediate Software Engineer

Sage Recruiting is recruiting an Intermediate Software Engineer for a Canadian fintech initiative building a new platform, scalable infrastructure and developer-facing APIs from the ground up. The engineering group operates with a startup mindset inside a larger organization and is establishing the architecture and technical foundations for next-generation financial products.

The engineer joins a founding team and will contribute across backend development, platform modules, APIs/SDKs, integrations, code quality and architecture evolution.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver scalable, reliable software with cross-functional partners.
• Build new platform modules while improving and maintaining existing components.
• Design systems for performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Build and maintain developer-facing APIs and B2B SDKs for internal and external users.
• Integrate with third-party services and external systems.
• Participate actively in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making as the platform evolves.
• Help shape early platform direction and systems intended to support high transaction volumes.

Required experience

• 2+ years of professional software-development experience in the current posting.
• Strong backend development experience using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience building developer-facing APIs or B2B SDKs.
• AI-native development experience, including practical use of foundation models and agentic workflows in software development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience designing or operating highly scalable or bursty systems, including workloads at very high transaction volumes.
• Full-stack experience with TypeScript/Node.js and React or React Native.
• Previous startup or fintech experience.

• Compensation: published base salary of $115,000–$140,000 CAD.
• Work model: remote-first within Canada.
