Engineering Team Lead

Sage Recruiting is hiring an Engineering Team Lead for an established enterprise software company’s AI-powered meeting-intelligence product. The team converts relationship-manager and client conversations into structured, CRM-ready insight and is one of the company’s most AI-forward engineering groups.

The role combines technical leadership with substantial hands-on engineering. Roughly 60–70% of the position remains focused on coding, architecture and system design, while the balance covers team leadership, agile delivery, coaching, technical-debt management and communication with leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Stay hands-on in coding, architecture and system design while the team grows.
• Own backlog grooming, estimation and sprint planning with the product owner.
• Run agile ceremonies and maintain clear delivery expectations and technical roadmaps.
• Hold regular 1:1s, coach engineers and support performance and development conversations.
• Identify delays, blockers, delivery risks and architectural trade-offs early and communicate them clearly to leadership.
• Partner with testing on coverage and test automation, especially for AI-driven features.
• Improve CI/CD, release traceability, engineering workflows and technical-debt management.
• Own high-level architecture and systems-design decisions while contributing production code.
• Help scale a small engineering team while maintaining a close-knit, high-quality engineering culture.

Must-have background

• Proven Team Lead experience with architecture ownership, backlog management, reporting and engineering-workflow optimization.
• Experience presenting timelines and technical trade-offs to leadership and coaching/mentoring engineers.
• Hands-on experience using agentic AI workflows in software development, beyond simple chat-assistant usage.
• Strong architecture and system-design instincts.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Full-stack engineering background with a solid foundation in C#/.NET (.NET 10), TypeScript and REST API design.
• Real ownership of CI/CD and strong habits around unit and integration testing.
• Cloud deployment experience; AWS is preferred but not mandatory.
• Working familiarity with databases.

Bonus experience

• Vue 3 and MongoDB.
• Experience helping a team navigate active growth.
• Formal performance-review experience.
• Startup experience, full software-development-lifecycle ownership or a highly self-directed learning style.

• Compensation: published base salary of $125,000–$150,000 CAD, plus bonus and RRSP matching.
• Benefits: paid vacation starting at three weeks, extended health care, dental and life insurance.
• Work model: remote in Canada; Eastern or Mountain time zones are preferred in the captured posting.
• Core stack: Vue 3, TypeScript, .NET 10/C#, Node, MongoDB, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions and Docker, with an AI-agent layer using tools such as LangGraph.
• Ramp expectations: initial learning during the first month, low-risk production ownership by roughly 60 days, full-capacity contribution around 90 days and deeper product/release ownership over the following 6–12 months.
