About the opportunity

Maxwell Management Group is recruiting a Community Social Worker for Doig River First Nation in British Columbia. Reporting to the Health and Wellbeing Manager, the role supports the holistic wellness of community members through culturally grounded, trauma-informed and family-centred social and health-development services.

Community context

Doig River First Nation describes a community vision rooted in care, cultural continuity, traditional knowledge and access to the resources people need to live well. The Community Social Worker is part of the Health and Social Development Department and contributes to the implementation of the Nation's Comprehensive Community Plan.

Core responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed and family-centred social-work support.
• Coordinate cases and help community members navigate health, education and social-service systems.
• Work with children, youth and families facing complex needs.
• Design and support community programs that strengthen wellness and family supports.
• Advocate for members when working with external systems and service providers.
• Act as a liaison with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, provincial health authorities and Indigenous service organizations.
• Collaborate with Elders, care providers, frontline professionals, community staff and leadership.
• Support respectful, integrated service coordination across organizations.
• Contribute to program development, reporting, grants, budgets and service planning where required.
• Participate in community outreach and occasional travel for member support, regional events and inter-agency coordination.

What the role requires in practice

The position combines direct support, advocacy, coordination and program-development work. It requires empathy and cultural humility, but also strong organization, professional discretion and the ability to manage several priorities in an evolving community environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Health Sciences or a related discipline.
• Current registration in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or an equivalent Canadian regulatory body.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence and clear criminal-record check.
• First Aid Level 1 is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in health or social-work roles.
• Direct experience supporting Indigenous communities, children, youth and families is important.
• Experience with culturally safe case management, trauma-informed practice and crisis response.
• Program-development, grant, budget and community-partnership experience are valuable.
