Are you a qualified Cook ready to contribute to the daily operations of a Canadian Forces operational unit? This role involves preparing and serving meals ranging from cafeteria-style menus to formal multi-course meals for military and civilian dignitaries.

What you bring to the table

- Current Secret security clearance.
- Ability to wear and use required protective footwear and workwear.
- Military QL5 qualification as a Cook, or an equivalent combination of institutional-cooking training and related work experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Responsibilities

- Prepare, cook, present and deliver food products and services through in-house food services, dispersed meals, sandwich/salad bars and take-out services.
- Roast, bake, grill, fry and boil meat, poultry, fish and vegetables.
- Prepare salads, pasta, casseroles, rice, vegetables and dressings.
- Bake breads and desserts and prepare fruit desserts.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with supervisors and co-workers under pressure and during challenging conditions, including visits from dignitaries, special occasions and special meals.
- Inform management about production, menus, leftovers, food consumption and shortages, recipe adjustments and equipment malfunctions so production can be adjusted as required.
- Apply principles and procedures of recipe standardization to develop and test new menu items and products.
- Plan, organize and prepare several types of meals with multiple components and coordinated cooking times within tight time frames.
- Operate commercial fryers and steamers, compartmentalized steam-heated tables, conventional steamers, meat cutters, mixers, grills, rotisseries and stove tops.
- Transport food and supplies from storage areas to work areas.
- Respond efficiently to unexpected or last-minute changes to menu items or the number of customers.
- Use food efficiently and economically to minimize waste.
- Follow operating, cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures for kitchen equipment and tools used in food preparation, serving and cleaning.
- Shrink and expand recipes using fractions, multiplication and conversions between imperial and metric measurements, often in a noisy environment with interruptions.
- Participate in planning and cooking for special functions requiring more complex meals, often in addition to the normal workload.

Hours of work

- 37.5 hours per week.
- Work location: Petawawa, Ontario.
- Operating hours between 05:30 and 19:00.
