Assistant Engineering Manager – Architectural Millwork / Woodworking

About the opportunity

The Staffing Exchange is recruiting an Assistant Engineering Manager for an established custom architectural millwork manufacturer in Mississauga. This hands-on leadership role guides an engineering and detailing team and connects design intent with fabrication-ready documentation and production execution.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineering workloads, schedules and day-to-day priorities.
• Oversee AutoCAD and Microvellum shop and production drawing packages.
• Review drawings for accuracy, constructability and production readiness.
• Support AWMAC/AWI compliance, submittals and engineering RFIs.
• Coordinate technical work between engineering, project management and production.
• Monitor department KPIs and improve workflow and quality-control practices.
• Resolve technical and production issues as projects move from design into manufacturing.
• Train, mentor and onboard team members and support performance development.
• Help maintain consistent engineering standards and efficient drawing-release processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, commercial woodworking or store-fixture experience.
• 5+ years of AutoCAD experience specifically related to millwork.
• Previous leadership, supervisory or team-management experience.
• Strong understanding of cabinetry construction and millwork manufacturing.
• Experience reviewing detailed shop and production drawings.
• Working knowledge of AWMAC and/or AWI standards.
• Microvellum experience is a strong asset.
• Direct architectural millwork or commercial woodworking experience is required; this is not a general engineering-management role.

Position details

• Full-time, permanent.
• Fully on-site in Mississauga, Ontario.
• Published salary: CAD 85,000–105,000.
