Role description
Waterhen Lake First Nation is seeking a senior operational leader to oversee the Nation’s programs, administration and strategic initiatives. Working with Chief and Council, the Director of Operations translates strategic direction into coordinated execution, leads and mentors teams across Finance, HR and community programs, strengthens governance and organizational accountability, and supports responsible financial management and long-term sustainability. The role oversees funding agreements, reporting and compliance, pursues new funding opportunities, supports economic development, and builds relationships with Indigenous Services Canada and other external partners. The Director is expected to foster a respectful and collaborative workplace grounded in Indigenous values while ensuring programs and organizational systems support community priorities and self-determination.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a degree in Business, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance or a related field and at least five years of senior leadership experience in complex organizations. Strong knowledge of Indigenous governance and funding frameworks, financial and organizational leadership, stakeholder relationship building, and cultural awareness are required. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate to Waterhen Lake First Nation and work closely with community leadership and external partners.
