Role description
About the opportunity
The Town of Creston is seeking a Director of Protective Services to provide strategic leadership and oversight for its Protective Services Division. The role is part of the Town’s senior leadership team and supports community safety, emergency readiness and organizational resilience.
Key responsibilities
• Lead fire and rescue services, emergency management, climate-readiness initiatives, fire-code enforcement and public-safety education.
• Develop divisional plans, policies, budgets and service objectives aligned with Council and corporate priorities.
• Advise the CAO and Council on risks, regulatory changes, service levels and improvement opportunities.
• Oversee emergency plans, EOC readiness, inter-agency coordination and continuity planning.
• Lead staff development, succession planning, performance management and workplace safety.
• Monitor budgets, performance indicators, operational statistics and strategic outcomes.
The position combines strategic municipal leadership with practical oversight of protective and emergency services.
Qualifications
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, emergency management, fire protection, fire-service administration, business administration, leadership or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in fire services, emergency management, public safety or a related municipal environment.
• Experience leading complex operations, managing budgets and supervising staff.
• Strong strategic-planning, organizational-leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
• Knowledge of fire-service operations, emergency management and public-safety practices.
• Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain within an approved period, the required BC driver, NFPA, First Responder, JIBC and BCERMS/ICS credentials listed in the official posting.
