About the opportunity

The City of Toronto is recruiting a Director for its Indigenous Affairs Office. The role provides senior leadership for the City’s work with Indigenous communities and for the continued advancement of reconciliation across municipal programs, relationships and decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Indigenous Affairs Office and its city-wide mandate.
• Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations and partners.
• Advance reconciliation priorities and support their integration across City divisions and services.
• Advise senior leaders on Indigenous relations, policy, engagement and implementation.
• Lead a team and coordinate complex initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Support accountable, respectful and sustained engagement with Indigenous communities.

The position is a senior public-sector leadership mandate within Canada’s largest municipality.

Qualifications

• Executive-level leadership experience appropriate to a large public-sector organization.
• Bachelor’s degree is listed by the current public posting.
• Demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous communities and to advance reconciliation in organizational practice.
• Strong strategic, relationship-building, policy and stakeholder-management capability.
• Ability to lead teams and work across a complex municipal environment.
