Role overview

GHRC is recruiting an experienced Machine Builder/Toolmaker in Ajax to assemble, fit, adjust and troubleshoot robotic welding systems and precision tooling. The position works alongside mechanical builders, electricians, designers and other skilled trades on robotic MIG and laser-welding equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble robotic welding systems, machinery, sub-assemblies, weld tooling, fixtures, components and pneumatic lines.
• Set up parts and tooling for robotic MIG and laser-welding systems using attribute gauges and precision measurement equipment.
• Adjust, alter, fit and align machine and tooling components to required tolerances.
• Operate mills, lathes, surface grinders and other machining equipment to manufacture or modify components.
• Complete complex machine builds, tooling setups and precision adjustments independently.
• Collaborate with electricians and other trades to resolve issues during builds.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, tooling, fitment and alignment issues.
• Review mechanical designs using SOLIDWORKS eDrawings or similar software.
• Communicate with the Plant Manager and mechanical design team about design questions, tooling changes and build issues.
• Maintain records of tooling adjustments, modifications and work in progress.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area.

Compensation

Pay is CA$31.96 per hour.

• Experience building, assembling, setting up or modifying automated machinery, robotic welding systems, weld tooling and machine components.
• Experience operating mills, lathes, surface grinders and related machining equipment to close tolerances.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, precision measurement and tooling alignment.
• Experience with robotic MIG or laser-welding tooling and attribute gauges.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical/tooling issues independently and collaborate with electricians, designers and trades.
• Strong communication, organization and record-keeping skills.
• Experience with progressive or transfer dies and automotive stamped components is an asset.
• FARO or ROMER measurement-system experience is an asset.
• SOLIDWORKS eDrawings or similar design-viewing familiarity is an asset.
• Understanding of heat-affected zones in welded components is an asset.
