Family / Estate Law Associate — 3–7 Year Call

Role overview

An established and growing downtown Vancouver law firm is seeking a lawyer with three to seven years post-call experience to join its family and estate practice. Family or estate experience is preferred, but lawyers from other practice areas with a genuine interest in developing this expertise may also be considered. The role combines independent file responsibility with mentorship from senior counsel.

Responsibilities

• Meet clients, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel and other professionals.
• Research legislation, case law and legal issues and develop legal arguments and strategies.
• Review files and evidence and identify key issues, strengths and risks.
• Prepare agreements, pleadings, court materials and other legal documents.
• Support negotiations, case preparation and litigation strategy and attend court proceedings.
• Manage matters independently as experience permits and respond to urgent priorities.

• LLB or JD and membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
• Three to seven years of post-call legal experience.
• Family and/or estate law experience is an asset.
• Strong research, analysis, drafting, organization and project-management skills.
• Client-focused, collaborative and interested in advocacy, negotiation and mediation.

Flexible hybrid Vancouver position available as either a salaried associate or contract/associate-counsel arrangement. Official salary range is $105,000–$190,000 depending on experience, year of call and existing practice.
