General Manager – Independent Living Residence

About the opportunity

Waterstone Human Capital is recruiting a General Manager for a new 155-suite luxury independent-living residence in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Reporting to the Director of Operations & Sales, the role is responsible for the overall operation of the residence during its lease-up period, with a strong focus on service quality, team development, occupancy growth and financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the residence, including programs, services and environmental coordination.
• Build, stabilize and develop a young leadership team across office, maintenance, food services, resident experience and sales.
• Maintain elevated service and brand standards throughout the new property.
• Work closely with the on-site sales team to convert prospective resident interest into move-ins and grow occupancy.
• Oversee hospitality, resident engagement, food and beverage, amenities and building operations.
• Bring structure and consistency to a new operating environment while supporting a high-quality resident experience.
• Manage the business and financial aspects of the residence alongside the service mandate.

The role is hands-on and combines operational leadership, hospitality and sales in a newly opened residence.

• 3–5+ years of progressive leadership experience in retirement living or hospitality.
• Demonstrated ability to drive occupancy and sales during a lease-up or opening period.
• Strong operational, people and financial leadership.
• Service-first approach with the ability to maintain high hospitality standards.
• Post-secondary education in hospitality/hotel management, resort management or business administration/management is preferred.
• Hospitality or senior-living experience is strongly relevant.
