QA Automation Engineer

Wirehead is recruiting a QA Automation Engineer for a 6-month on-site government contract in Toronto. The assignment focuses on building and improving automated quality-assurance coverage across user interfaces, APIs, performance testing and continuous-delivery pipelines.

Automation & testing scope

• Design, build and maintain automated UI test coverage using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or WebDriverIO.
• Automate API testing with tools such as Postman, REST Assured or SoapUI.
• Support performance and load testing using JMeter or Gatling.
• Develop or maintain data-driven, keyword-driven or hybrid automation frameworks.
• Review manual test cases and identify scenarios that should be automated.
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD workflows and version-control practices.

Quality engineering environment

• Work with Java, Python, JavaScript or C# for test scripting and automation.
• Use Git and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps or GitLab CI.
• Work with unit/test frameworks such as TestNG, JUnit and Mocha.
• Apply BDD practices using tools such as Cucumber or SpecFlow.
• Apply software-testing lifecycle and QA methods across functional, regression, integration, system, smoke and exploratory testing.

Team contribution

• Collaborate closely with functional and technical teams.
• Participate effectively in a large delivery team while coordinating with individual contributors.
• Use structured analysis and systematic problem solving under aggressive timelines and changing priorities.

Technical requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with UI automation frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or WebDriverIO.
• API-testing experience with Postman, REST Assured or SoapUI.
• Performance-testing experience with JMeter or Gatling.
• Programming or scripting proficiency in Java, Python, JavaScript or C#.
• Experience with version control and CI/CD tooling such as Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or GitLab CI.
• Solid understanding of test frameworks such as TestNG, JUnit and Mocha.
• Experience or knowledge of BDD tools such as Cucumber or SpecFlow.
• Deep knowledge of the software testing lifecycle and QA methodologies.
• Experience developing data-driven, keyword-driven or hybrid test-automation frameworks.
• Ability to analyze manual test cases and identify strong automation candidates.
