Assistant Controller, Commercial Real Estate

AVID EXEC is conducting a retained search for an Assistant Controller with a private commercial real estate company. The mandate covers commercial, multi-family and land operations and is more heavily focused on accounting leadership, process consistency and cross-functional financial insight than on day-to-day transactional accounting.

Three Accounting Managers report to the role, each with their own accounting team. Responsibilities include coaching those managers, overseeing accounting and reporting for property management, development and capital projects, supporting budgets and consolidation, year-end CAM audits, internal controls and compliance, and partnering with property, asset and development leaders. The person also works with the Controller and executive leadership on priorities, process improvements, systems and special projects.

The search targets a CPA or someone progressing toward the designation, with at least five years of relevant accounting experience including supervisory or leadership responsibilities. Commercial real estate development experience is expected, potentially across property management, asset management and development projects. Candidates should understand multi-entity accounting and recurring reporting cycles; Yardi or comparable software experience is important. The role also requires the ability to coach managers, set expectations, work across departments and lead process change.

The role may be based in Edmonton or Calgary and is office-based. Because RBB has a single-city job field, no single city is fabricated; both valid locations are preserved here.
