Role description
About the opportunity
Our client is an established and growing Canadian manufacturing company seeking a Controller to join the finance function. The role reports directly to the General Manager and CFO.
The Controller will be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the company’s financial information across reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, cash flow, budgeting, payroll, and inventory and cost accounting.
The position directly manages the AR/AP Supervisor and Inventory Analyst and offers an opportunity to lead the finance function while continuing to build processes, systems and team capability.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the day-to-day operations of the finance function.
• Own monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Oversee full-cycle accounting, including AR/AP, general ledger and month-end close.
• Establish and strengthen internal controls.
• Manage cash-flow reporting and forecasting.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Oversee payroll processing and compliance.
• Manage inventory accounting and cost accounting for the manufacturing operation.
• Manage and develop the AR/AP Supervisor and Inventory Analyst.
• Build and document finance processes and systems to support continued growth.
Qualifications
What you bring
• CPA designation.
• Progressive accounting and finance experience with readiness to step into a Controller-level role.
• Hands-on cost accounting and inventory accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience owning financial reporting, budgeting and cash-flow management.
• Experience managing or mentoring direct reports.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls and full-cycle accounting.
• Analytical, resourceful and dependable approach.
• Comfort working in a hands-on entrepreneurial environment.
Nice to have
• ERP or inventory-management system experience in manufacturing.
• Practical experience using AI tools for business.
• Food and beverage or packaging manufacturing experience.
