Engineering Lead, Civil and Structural

About the opportunity

MatchBox is recruiting an Engineering Lead to establish and grow an in-house civil and structural engineering function for a power-systems contractor in Calgary.

The role is the senior technical resource for high-voltage substation civil and structural work, including steel and concrete structures, foundations, piling and anchoring systems, equipment supports, site development, duct banks, access roads, drainage and related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• The lead will coordinate multidisciplinary design, review calculations and construction packages, support estimates and bids, resolve field and constructability issues, manage scope and technical priorities, work directly with utility clients and help build standards, processes and the future engineering team.

Qualifications

• The posting requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline, P.Eng. registration and more than ten years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience.
• Strong high-voltage substation design experience, knowledge of utility requirements and constructability, structural design of steel and concrete systems, foundations and civil site design are central.
• Candidates should be able to review calculations and drawings, support projects through construction, prepare technical estimates and mentor engineers and designers.
• Client-facing communication, a Class 5 licence and willingness to perform occasional field work are required.
• Previous team leadership, EPC/utility experience and familiarity with structural/civil design software are assets.

Position details

• Permanent full-time role in Calgary, Alberta.
• In office Monday through Thursday with Friday from home.
• Approximately 10% travel.
• Public listing range: CAD 130,150–164,400.
