Role overview

Trevor Frances Recruitment is recruiting a Director of Resident Care for a new long-term-care home opening in Scarborough. Reporting in partnership with the Executive Director, the nursing leader will plan, develop and supervise nursing, therapy and restorative-care services and establish resident-centred clinical and operational standards from the facility’s opening.

Leadership responsibilities

The Director oversees admissions, transfers and discharges, budgeting and inventory controls, infection prevention, risk management, occupational health and safety and quality improvement. The role recruits and develops the nursing team, leads orientation and training and collaborates with physicians, pharmacists, laboratories, hospitals and multidisciplinary services. It also chairs professional and nursing meetings, works with the Ministry of Health and supports broader home administration.

• Current RN registration and Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent education/experience.
• Minimum five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in geriatrics, rehabilitation or long-term care.
• At least three years as an RN in a managerial or supervisory healthcare role; LTC preferred.
• Current CPR certificate and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screen.
• Budgeting and financial-management experience.
• Strong leadership, change management, conflict-resolution and negotiation skills.
• Chinese-language ability is a strong asset according to the posting.
