Talent Acquisition & People Manager

About the opportunity

CB Smart Recruit is recruiting a Talent Acquisition & People Manager for a fast-growing North American freight brokerage in East York, Toronto. Reporting to the CEO, this role owns how the company attracts, hires, develops and retains talent as it prepares to scale well beyond its current team size.

Key responsibilities

• Build pipelines for freight brokers, account executives, carrier-sales, operations and other priority hires.
• Proactively headhunt passive, commission-driven and quota-carrying sales talent.
• Own full-cycle recruiting from market mapping and sourcing through screening, interviews, offers and onboarding.
• Build scalable interview stages, scorecards, assessments and hiring timelines.
• Track pipeline activity, time-to-fill, offer acceptance and new-hire performance.
• Improve onboarding, training, retention, engagement and career-development processes.
• Establish performance-review and coaching practices.
• Support commission structures and performance incentives.
• Manage employee-relations issues, benefits, HR systems, policies and documentation.
• Help ensure alignment with Ontario employment practices as the People function grows.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive talent-acquisition, recruiting and/or HR experience with significant hands-on recruiting responsibility.
• Proven experience helping a growing organization scale and building or improving recruiting / People processes.
• Leadership or functional ownership experience in Talent Acquisition or People.
• Proven success recruiting commission-based or quota-carrying sales professionals.
• Strong full-cycle recruiting, proactive sourcing, headhunting and passive-candidate engagement skills.
• Broader HR experience in onboarding, performance, employee relations, retention and policy development.
• Working knowledge of Ontario employment practices.
• Strong communication, ownership and confidence working directly with senior leadership.
• Freight brokerage / 3PL experience and CHRP/CHRL designation are assets.

Position details

• Full-time, permanent and on-site in East York, Toronto.
• Published base salary: CAD 80,000–100,000, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
• Benefits include dental, vision, extended health, life insurance and paid time off.
• Approximately 60–70% of the role is expected to focus on recruiting; the balance covers broader People/HR responsibilities.
• Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in Canada; employer sponsorship is not available.
