Role description
Full-time Manager of Zoo Operations opportunity with the City of Moncton at Magnetic Hill Zoo and Magnetic Hill Park, with public compensation of approximately $107,000–$130,000 depending on education and experience. The role leads Animal Care and Maintenance teams and oversees daily operations, facilities, safety, compliance and operational readiness across a 40-acre public attraction with more than 70 indigenous and exotic species.
Key responsibilities
• Lead Animal Care and Maintenance teams through coaching, clear expectations and performance management.
• Oversee daily animal care, maintenance, facilities and site readiness.
• Ensure compliance with City policies, legislation and CAZA/AZA accreditation standards.
• Coordinate accreditation preparation, audits, safety programs and emergency-response procedures.
• Manage operational and capital projects including exhibits, infrastructure renewal and contractors.
• Support budgets, maintenance planning and asset management.
• Lead process improvements and operational change.
• Maintain relationships with City departments, regulators, contractors and partners and act for the Director when required.
Profile
A two-year post-secondary diploma in animal sciences, zoology, biology, wildlife, veterinary-related studies or a related field is expected, along with at least five years of supervisory experience in a zoo, aquarium, wildlife park or similar facility, including three years supervising staff. Experience with accreditation, capital projects, unionized teams, safety/emergency response and budgets is important. Bilingual English/French capability may be preferred.
Qualifications
Senior operational leadership experience in zoos, animal-care facilities or comparable regulated environments is expected. Strong people leadership, safety, compliance and facility-management capabilities are important.
