Principal SW Engineer

hireVouch is recruiting a Principal Software Engineer for a mandate based in Toronto or Kitchener, Ontario. The client operates a globally distributed exchange platform processing hundreds of billions of daily auctions and is seeking a small number of principal-level engineers who can improve software engineering practice across teams rather than simply deliver a single project.

The person may lead a major product or platform initiative or operate as an internal technical advisor across engineering groups. Responsibilities include setting technical direction for high-impact problems, designing and critiquing large distributed-system architectures, improving the leverage of senior engineers through design review and mentorship, taking ownership of major initiatives where appropriate, solving cross-team problems, improving engineering practices, making pragmatic architectural decisions and remaining close enough to production systems and code to ground those decisions in reality.

• Successful experience at Principal, Senior Principal or equivalent technical scope.
• Deep experience designing and operating complex backend or distributed systems where performance, reliability and throughput matter.
• Track record leading consequential technical work across multiple teams.
• Strong systems fundamentals covering concurrency, distributed state, networking, data movement, performance and failure modes.
• Ability to enter unfamiliar systems, understand constraints quickly and influence experienced technical leaders.
• History of improving the effectiveness of other senior engineers.
• Strong communication, technical judgment and comfort with ambiguous ownership and problem boundaries.

The ATS location is “Toronto or Kitchener, Ontario.” Because RBB has a single-city field, no single city is fabricated; both valid locations are preserved here and the region is Ontario.
