AI Engineer (FinOps)

About the opportunity

TekRek is recruiting an AI Engineer focused on FinOps for a financial-services organization in the Greater Toronto Area.

The contract sits between AI engineering, platform infrastructure and financial governance.

Key responsibilities

• The engineer will analyse AI and LLM consumption, identify avoidable token or model costs, build routing logic that sends requests to the appropriate model tier, create usage tracking and cost-allocation or chargeback/showback frameworks, and embed FinOps controls into model deployment and release workflows.
• The role also improves monitoring, thresholds and guardrails around model usage, access and cost trends across multiple business entities.

Qualifications

• Candidates need hands-on FinOps experience specifically with AI or LLM workloads and an understanding of model, token or compute economics.
• Experience with model gateways or routing, consumption tracking, cost attribution and chargeback/showback is central.
• A strong data-engineering and governance background is expected, together with experience communicating technical cost information to engineering and business leaders.
• Financial-services cost and reporting requirements and multi-entity operating structures are particularly relevant.
