Senior Android Engineer

About the opportunity

TekRek is recruiting a Senior Android Engineer in Toronto for a contract with a SaaS company that builds financial software and payment tools for the education sector.

The role is roughly 70% Android and 30% backend and owns software running on Android point-of-sale terminals as well as the cloud services used to monitor, configure and report on the device fleet.

Key responsibilities

• The engineer will build Kotlin and Java applications, integrate payment and peripheral hardware, improve secure and stable payment workflows, design Azure services and APIs for diagnostics and fleet management and build telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, transactions and connectivity events.

Qualifications

• The posting seeks eight or more years of software-engineering experience, including at least five focused on Android with Kotlin, Java, the Android SDK and Jetpack.
• Candidates should have experience with POS, kiosk, retail or other specialized Android hardware, MVVM / Clean Architecture, coroutines and dependency injection.
• Backend experience in C#/.NET, Java/Spring Boot or Node.js, REST APIs and SQL/NoSQL databases is expected.
• Hands-on Azure experience is important.
• Payment-terminal ecosystems, PCI-DSS, Docker, Kubernetes and observability tooling are useful assets.
